If you have a garden and you wish to introduce your children to some outdoor activity, you are most welcome to do so. It doesn’t even need to be a big space. Sometimes you can teach some lessons with nothing more but a few window boxes at home.

In any case, gardening with children surely is a wonderful thing. Children will be curious about all of the activities that take place, and they will ask you a ton of questions. That is your chance to educate them and help them learn more about the world around them. It is also a fine opportunity to teach them some love for Nature. Following are a few tips on how to introduce your children to some gardening work.

Let’s start with water

Chores You Can Do With Your Children In The Garden

Is there a child in this world, who isn’t fascinated by water? Surely they will want to participate in watering the garden, as it is easy and it definitely looks fun. To help them, you can buy small-sized watering cans for children. These are light enough for little ones to lift and actually use in the watering process. Just make sure you oversee the process, in case your children get a little more enthusiastic. You don’t want them to drown your plants.

Planting new life

You can teach your children all about planting seeds, even without the use of specific plants. Just collect some from avocados, lemons and apples you eat in your home. First, plant these in a small pot so that they can see what happens. Avocado stones are particularly cool since you can place them in a small glass with some water underneath. That way you can check out as the roots take shape.

Make a bird box

Teaching more about wildlife will always be an interesting topic to capture the attention of your little ones. Who doesn’t like birds? Your children will be more than willing to help you set up a bird box or two. If they are crafty enough, you can even build it with them. Of course, there is always the option just to purchase one from the store and use it. Think about the best place to set it up. Somewhere your children can monitor daily is perfect. That way they will be able to see when the bird box has served its purpose and housed some actual birds.

Weed the garden

Children Gardening Tips

If your children are old enough to recognise weeds, then weeding with them is a nice chore. Arm them with thick enough gloves so that they don’t get hurt on thorns or something like that. This is one chore you need to be particularly careful with when your children are around since some plants are actually dangerous. Therefore, don’t attempt this with toddlers, but only with children around the age of 10 or older.

Planting bulbs

Children love planting bulbs since they are eager to see what comes out of this labour. Needless to say, when done right, the bulbs will soon enough shoot out of the ground to become beautiful plants in the garden. That is when your children will feel a great sense of reward, which is why this chore is so great.

Picking flowers

What better way to reward your children than to let them pick the flowers they planted themselves? Children will love to pick flowers. Make sure you teach them how to do it properly so that they don’t ruin the plant. Follow our blog for more interesting articles from the gardening world.
